We’ve all heard that we should eat our fruits and vegetables since we were little children. We have all been told that fruits and vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet, but until know there wasn’t much definite proof of this – it was just a generally accepted idea. Now, a recent study by UCLA cancer researchers shows that people whom eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables (along with drinking green tea as it shows great anti cancer properties) experienced lower risks of various cancers to include lung cancer, one of the deadliest cancers. The study found that the primary cancer fighting ingredient in fruits, vegetables and teas like green tea are flavanoids. These flavenoids have anti inflammatory properties and when people ate fruits and vegetables or supplements containing these flavonoids it protected them from developing cancer in many cases. The strongest flavenoids that protect the most against cancer are called catechins, kaeempferol and quecetin and they exist in highest quantities in green and black teas, brussel sprouts, beans, onions, apples and strawberries. The patients with the highest amount of vegetable and fruit intake (especially those that drank green tea) had the lowest incidences of cancer development. The study concluded that a good daily diet supplemented with plenty of fruits and vegetables high in flavenoids along with a cup or two of green tea may help prevent the formation of various cancers.
