On the day of laser hair removal therapy, the skin is first thoroughly cleaned usually with a whirlpool bath or similar. Then some spas shave the areas to be treated (others don’t as it makes it easier to find the hair follicles to be treated). The laser treatment in itself is not painful like electrolysis or waxing. It is similar to lasik eye surgery (or other types of laser eye surgery). There is no real pain, just a little whiff of smoke everytime the laser hits a hair and it may smell a little like burned hair.
