How to lose weight, reduce belly fat and regain your health

For some the battle of the bulge or middle section may seem an upward or losing battle.  When we hear of the terms obese or fat we automatically think of the belly or midsection as this is where obesity first shows (in some people it is in the thighs it all depends upon a persons particular body type).  Obesity in any form is bad for you as it can cause or lead to heart problems and cardiovascular disease due to overstrain on the heart. This article is about obesity, losing weight, keeping it off and staying healthy. 

 

Losing weight is actually quite easy.  There is no one diet that is so supreme to all the others that it must be followed diligently and that in itself will create the weight loss you desire.  That is impossible (even though the diet companies behind these diets all promise theirs is the best).  So, what really works?  First losing weight is about a complete lifestyle change and you must envision it as such.  If you only see it as a diet you will have minimal results and not stick with it – it will be a fad that you do for a couple of weeks and than get bored and go back to your regular diet. 

 

Properly losing weight includes a diet change, exercise, planning ahead (so you don’t forget a healthy meal and grab junk food, soda or unhealthy snacks instead), and enlisting the help of others.  Most people have a see it and eat it diet.  Whenever they are hungry they eat what ever is readily and quickly available.  This is why fast food and junk food is so readily available and popular.  We live in a hurried or rush society.  These foods provide a quick sugar burst that is short in duration and leaves one feeling drained or tired after words due to the over production of insulin in response to the sugar rush.  This can and does lead to complacency, lack of exercise and obesity.  No other food is more associated with belly fat than soda and sugary snacks.

Plan to eat good, healthy foods and meals.  There is a reason why the USDA states that one should use the food pyramid for a proper diet.  The food pyramid consists of meats and poultry, milk and dairy products, breads and grains, and fruits and vegetables.  No where in there does it list sodas and sweets.  So, number 1 step for losing weight, losing belly fat and regaining health is to stop eating sweets.  Yes, I know that good foods and ingredients cost more, but you will feel better for it.  Stop drinking soda and eating Twinkies and Ho Ho’s.

Running uses your whole body and if done right, you will lose weight and belly fat and regain your health and probably become healthier than ever if you stick with it.  Proper running involves stretching and hydration (be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day and also during your run).  Stretching will promote elasticity and make you less prone to injury or pulled muscles.  After stretching a slow pace run that is comfortable should be used at first.  After a while you can incorporate hills, trails, parks, etc…  The possibilities are endless.  A run can be to anywhere – around the neighborhood, to the local park, at the local high school track, through downtown, etc…  The possibilities are endless and this will help keep you interested.  After you run be sure to do some warm down stretching and again drink plenty of fluids.  Also, keep track of your efforts in a log book so you can see your progress.  You will not notice any differences day to day (except maybe for soreness), but over time you will see huge changes and this is where a log book will really help you.

 

Planning ahead and enlisting friends goes hand in hand.  Remember, losing weight and belly fat is akin to quiting smoking, and the best way to quit smoking is to enlist friends and plan ahead (don’t go where you will be tempted to give up or give in).  It isn’t going to be easy, so you should plan your day to avoid unhealthy eating and habits.  Friends will help remind you and if you can get some friends to take on this challenge with you that’s even better.  If you can’t find helpful friends you can always join a local running group.  There are thousands of these and they are in every city.  Just look up running clubs with your city on Google and figure out which interests you.  You may only like to run a few miles or so, so a long distance 15 mile plus club may be too arduous for you.  Many local colleges also have adult running programs and related classes which you may find very helpful like weight loss, proper dieting, running for your health, etc…  The best thing is that many of these classes are very low cost or even free.
