Combination light therapy is a suitable treatment for the removal of acne, it is now suitable to treat more severe cases of acne. In the past red and blue light was used individually, now a combination of both lights are used to remove the symptoms of acne. This is much better than the more traditional forms of acne removal, such as poison or physically removing the acne. Combination light therapy is not invasive, and no drugs are required. The light therapy is carried out with the use of LED’s, I’m sure you’ve heard of these before. LED or light emitting diodes are found in practically any electrical product you can find around your house. Even my bedside table clock has an LED light that’s so bright I keep dreaming about a bomb with a flashing red light, well I guess that’s the James bond in me! Lasers are not used in light therapy, and so the tissue does not become damaged and the condition is completely pain free.
LED light uses light from the infrared spectrum, this is the same frequency that your remote control uses, it’s invisible to us. Also certain parts of the visible red spectrum are used in light therapy. Light therapy causes the cellular power plants known as mitochondria to produce more ATP, this is the fuel the cells need to function.
A higher level of energy allows our skin cells to function more efficiently and is required for the body to heal itself. Light therapy therefore affects the human body on a cellular level, which should help the body repair its own tissue quicker and easier. Light has the ability of speeding up or slowing down certain chemical processes within the body.
